Stronger Together: The Power of Community in Strength Training
When it comes to improving your strength and energy during perimenopause or post-menopause, it’s easy to feel like you have to go it alone. Motivation dips, the gym can feel intimidating, and your energy levels might already be stretched thin. But what if the missing piece isn’t more willpower, it’s people?
This June is The Month of Community, and it’s the perfect time to talk about why being part of a group like Stronger, Fitter You doesn’t just make workouts more effective, it makes them more enjoyable, more sustainable, and more supportive.
Here’s how our small but mighty Ilkeston-based group changes everything.
1. You’re Not Just Lifting Weights- You’re Lifting Each Other
Stronger, Fitter You isn’t your average fitness class. We train in person each week in a small, supportive groups of maximum of five (you stay in the same group). That means no getting lost at the back, but also no spotlight pressure. One person put it beautifully:
“Small friendly group really helps. I find 1:1 a bit intense/all about me…”
There’s something powerful about training alongside people going through similar life stages. Stronger, Fitter You is for women aged around 40 or people navigating menopause. You’ll hear things like,
“I was surprised at my confidence to meet with and talk to new people in this type of setting.”
That connection matters. Because let’s be honest showing up consistently is a lot easier when you know someone else will be glad to see you.
2. Shared Goals, Shared Support- Inside and Outside the Studio
It’s not just about what happens during your 60 minute in person session. The Stronger, Fitter You group stays connected in the app all week. We cheer each other on, share little wins (like lifting a heavier kettlebell or cooking a focus food meal), and asking questions when something feels off. The app is easy to use (we’ve tested a few!) and packed with extras like your home workouts, nutrition guidance, and a direct line to me, your personal trainer and coach.
This combo of real-life meetups and digital support means you get the best of both worlds- community and flexibility.
One participant said it best:
“Join a group. You’re better as part of something.”
3. Confidence That Carries into Everyday Life
This isn’t just about getting stronger muscles (though that happens too!). It’s about building confidence and consistency in a way that lasts far beyond the programme.
Many people join feeling unsure. Some haven’t exercised in years. Some are managing fatigue, brain fog, or low mood that can come with perimenopause or menopause. But by the end?
They’re stronger- inside and out. They’re booking holidays, trying new sports, and inviting friends to join too.
One member shared:
“Definitely worth a try! (I’m currently trying to persuade my my best friend to come along!)”
That’s the kind of confidence we build. One that ripples out into your life, your family, and your friendships.
